Grooming FAQs

What’s included in a groom? We offer three levels of grooming;  The Happy Hound, the Fabulous Fido and the Pampered Pooch.  See our Grooming Page for additional information.

How much will it cost? We can provide you with a breed-specific estimate; however, it is important to note that these are only guidelines.  An actual price will be determined upon evaluation of your pet. By seeing your pet, our groomers are better able to give a true assessment (size, condition of coat, temperament, what you’d like to have done, etc.).

Why aren’t your grooming prices posted? Simple.  We don’t want to mislead you.  We don’t have a “set” price for each type of dog.  By seeing your pet, we are better able to give a true assessment (size, condition of coat, temperament, what you’d like to have done, etc.).  We pride ourselves in doing the best job, and the only way to ensure we do this is to assess your pet prior to quoting a price.

How long will it take for Fido to be groomed? Approximately 1 1/2 -2 hours.  However, we are most concerned with ensuring your pet is groomed to our high standards, and in some instances that may take a little longer.  We will discuss the exact timing with you when you drop your dog off.

What information do you need for Fido’s first appointment? We will need proof that your pet is current on vaccinations, or a titer test.  General pet, medical and contact information will also be asked for.

Do you take walk-ins? No.  Our groomers devote themselves to focusing on one pet at a time, and therefore we are not able to accept pets without scheduled appointment times.  However, call for an appointment and we will do our best to get you in as soon as possible.

Will my pet be placed in a kennel?  Why? All pets are placed in a kennel while waiting to be picked up, and possibly when first dropped off.  This is for your pet’s safety as well as the safety of everyone else.  We are not a daycare facility and do not have the ability to monitor free-roaming dogs.

Why are appointment times so specific?  Can’t I just drop Fido off early/pick up late? We are not a daycare facility.  We groom by appointment only.  Grooming by specific times allow us to provide specialized attention to each of our clients and minimizes the amount of time your pet will spend in a kennel.

What happens when you’re done grooming my dog/cat? You will be called approximately 15-20 minutes prior to your pet’s completion so that you can be in the store to pick them up as they are finished.  This will minimize the time your pet is placed in a kennel.  We understand that there will occasionally be slight delays in picking up your pet, but it can be quite stressful for your pet to wait after the grooming session is complete.

Do you groom sedated pets? No.  We do not groom sedated pets.  We retain the right to refuse service to any pet we feel is unable to be groomed safely whether due to aggressiveness, age or health.

My dog has just had surgery.  Can I still bring him in to be groomed? Pets with open wounds or stitches will not be groomed until they are healed properly.  This ensures safety for your pet, other pets, and our groomers.  Pets with any communicable disease cannot be groomed until a written vet’s note confirms they are no longer contagious.

What about my elderly pet? We welcome senior and special-needs pets; however, as with all of our pets, their comfort comes first and foremost.  When your pet checks in, we will discuss appropriate grooming options.  Throughout the groom, your pet’s safety and comfort take precedence over cosmetic desires.

My dog’s hair has some mats…is that a problem? Our groomers take your pet’s health and safety very seriously, and therefore will not de-matt your pet if they are badly matted.  Severe mats can cause skin irritations and hide other conditions such as hot spots, dermatitis, seborrhea, cuts, scabs, sores and redness. It is not unusual to encounter these problems when the coat is stripped from a badly matted animal and it is definitely in your pets best interest to address them.  We allot 15 minutes of dematting time; any pet requiring more than this amount of dematting will be clipped to avoid pain and frustration (think about trying to detangle your hair for longer than that!).  We will discuss these possibilities with you at check in, or over the phone before we clip your pet.

My dog’s mats require a shavedown, what can I expect? Pets with matted coats need extra time and attention during grooming.  We use extreme care when removing a badly matted coat, but there are risks involved.  Some of those risks include nicks, cuts, or abrasions due to warts, moles, and skin trapped in the mats.  After-effects of mat removal can include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted irritation and failure of the hair to regrow.  Shaved pets are also more at risk of sunburn and should be protected from the sun until the hair has grown sufficiently to protect the skin.  In some cases, brief behavioral changes may be seen, but the vast majority of matted dogs show immense relief and happiness after removal of a matted coat.

Will Fido be muzzled? Aggressive pets, or Fiesty Fidos as we like to call them, may be muzzled for their safety and ours.

Can I bring toys/treats for Fido? We encourage bringing items that will help pawsitively reinforce good behavior.

What if I need to cancel an appointment? A 24 hour notice is required for cancellation of a scheduled appointment (48 hours if you are booking more than one animal).  This allows us time to try to book a replacement for your vacated appointment.  Cancellations within less than 24 hours are deemed “no shows” and may be subject to a $25 cancellation fee added to your next appointment.  After 2 “no shows” or “late cancellations,” you may be required to prepay.

Can my pet get just a haircut and no bath? We want all pets to look their best…and that can only happen if we bathe and groom your pet.  Also, pets not cleaned immediately before their styling carry some dirt and debris in their coat, causing our grooming tools to break down much more quickly.  As a result, all pets must be bathed by our groomers.
